Half-and-Half Setup: A Step-by-Step Guide for Pizza Stores

Welcome to another section of our Online Menu Guide! This section offers step-by-step instructions for setting up Half-and-Half for your pizza menu items

The Half-and-Half setup can only be configured after your menu's pizzas (including simple and complex pizza items) have been added to the Admin Panel. Ensure these pizzas are categorised appropriately, for instance, under "Traditional Pizzas" or "Gourmet Pizzas."

Step 1

Access Next Order Account

  • Go to www.admin.nextorder.com

  • Log in to your restaurant account using your credentials (email address and password)

Step 2

Access Half/Half Setup

Once you’re logged in to the Dashboard

  • Go over to the left panel and select “Menu”

  • Under the “Menu” dropdown, click “Half-Half Setup”

Step 3

Select Categories

Select the categories eligible for the 'Half-and-Half' setup. If you want to combine categories, like 'Seafood Pizzas' and 'Meat Pizzas,' make sure to select both. However, some categories should only pair with their own type. For instance, Traditional pizzas can only be combined with other Traditional pizzas. In these cases, select 'Add to Half/Half' and set up combinations within that specific category only.

For this example, let's set up Half-and-Half options exclusively for Classic Pizzas.

Step 4

Select Size

  • After adding the categories, select all the size options that will be available for half-half orders.

  • In this example, we will configure Half and Half for “Small”, “Medium”, and “Large” pizza sizes

📝 The “Select Size” box is where we select sizes for Simple Pizza Items

Step 5

Select Modifiers

🔔 This step applies only to Complex Pizza Items that include modifiers in your Pizza category.

“Select Modifiers” - carefully select all the applicable modifiers for your complex items in the half/half. This includes:

  • Size modifiers, which determine the size of your pizzas

  • Other modifiers that apply

Missing any of the modifiers can cause Half and Half setup errors.

While setting up the "half and half', keep your customer website open for quick reference. Ensure you’ve correctly selected all the modifiers for each complex pizza item within the Half-and-Half section.

Complex Item:

📝 Variants (e.g., Gluten Free) and Half/Half setup: When selecting sizes under Half/Half for Simple or Complex pizza items, if a variant like Gluten Free is assigned to a Large size, you don’t need to select the variant separately; it will be applied automatically.

Step 6

Select Default Size

Select the “Default Size”. Whatever Size you select here will show as default on your website and POS when customers choose to add Half-And-Half

🔔 It is essential to select the default size from simple pizza menu items. Selecting the default size from complex items can cause half/half setup errors.

Step 7 (Important) 📌

Pairing Sizes

  • Half and Half setups are size-sensitive. On the website and POS, half of a large pizza should only be paired with another half of a large pizza. Assigning a number for each size will prevent mismatching of items.

  • Any number will work (“1” for “Small” size and “2” for “Large” Size) as long as the sizes are paired together sharing the same number.

🔔 Both Simple and Complex items must have the same number assigned based on their size. However, any additional modifiers in Complex items should be paired together with different numbers. For example, if you have a “Base Sauce” modifier with sub-modifiers like “Tomato Base Sauce” and “BBQ Base Sauce,” they should share the same number. In contrast, a different modifier, like “Anchovies” and “No Anchovies,” from another Complex item should be paired together with a separate number, as they are distinct modifiers

Step 8

Selecting pizza menu items to be included in Half/Half

By default, all items under the categories that have been selected are already ticked. If there are specific pizzas you don't want to offer as half-and-half options, simply uncheck them in this step. Note that some pizzas, especially those with more expensive pricing, may not be available for the half-and-half option so you can exclude them in this step.

Step 9

Half/Half Additional Charges

Additional fees for Half-and-Half pizza options vary by venue. Please enter the extra cost here or leave this setting unchanged if there is no additional charge for half/half set up at your restaurant.

Step 10

Charging Full Price For Extras In Half/Half

This option asks whether the store should charge the full price for any extra toppings, even if they’re only on one half of the pizza.

For example, if a customer orders a half-and-half pizza where one half has extra cheese (an extra topping), this setting determines if the charge for the extra cheese will be the full amount (as if the extra cheese were on the whole pizza) or just half of that cost (since it’s only on half of the pizza)

📝 This option is important for pricing strategy, as it affects how additional costs are calculated and could impact the overall price

Step 11

Set Pricing Based On The Most Expensive Half Pizza

This option is used to base the total of half and half on the price of the costlier pizza.

For example, if half the price of Pizza A is $5 and half the price of Pizza B is $6, instead of having a total of $11, it should be $12 (6x2). This pricing method is optional and is typically applied in stores, where classic and gourmet pizzas are mixed as options for half and half.

By default, this option is not ticked.

Step 12

Half/Half Placeholder Image

The final step involves uploading an image showing two different pizza halves representing the Half/Half option.

Step 13

Saving your Half and Half setup

After rechecking all your selections, ensure that every option is correctly chosen and then click the “Save” button in the upper right corner of the Admin Panel.
