Editing Menu Items - Easy Guide

Menu Item Edits

Next Order makes it easy to update your menu. Common changes include:

  • Adding and Removing Extras

  • Updating Prices for Extras

  • Size updates: adding additional sizes, removing certain sizes

  • Changing Item Names and Descriptions

  • Changing Item Types: Switching item types from simple to complex and vice versa, by adding/removing modifiers

  • Adding Variants

  • Adding and Removing Modifiers (Complex Menu Items)

  • Moving Items Across Categories

๐Ÿšจ Whenever editing menu items, it is important to always click on the 'Next Step' button after entering changes under a certain section i.e. 'Extras' and then click on the 'Save' button under 'Preview' section

 

๐Ÿ”” Also, always remember to refresh your customer website after making and saving your changes

Menu edits & third-party integrations 

๐Ÿ”” Remember, if your store is connected with external delivery services like Uber Eats or DoorDash through Next Order, it's important to sync your menu every time you make changes. This ensures that your updates are also reflected on these third-party platforms.

Editing Menu Items - Simple Instructions

  1. To edit a menu item, find it under Menu > Menu Items

  2. Click the 'Edit' button inside a chosen item

  3. Go to the section that needs to be updated

  4. Make updates

  5. Next Step

  6. 'Preview' > Save


Adding/Removing/Price Update for Extras

Let's increase the price for some extras and add a new one to our chosen menu item

  • Go to Menu > Menu Items > Click 'Edit'

  • Go to 'Extras' section
  • To increase the price of 'Mozzarella' simply enter the new price

  • To add a new extra, simply tick the relevant box and enter the pricing
  • To remove an extra, untick the relevant box
  • Once all of the above changes are done, remember to click on the
    'Next Step' button > Go to 'Preview > Save
 

Moving items across different menu categories 

To shift an item, for example 'Carbonara' Pasta, from the 'Lunch' to 'Pasta' category, follow these steps:

  • Click the 'Edit' button on the chosen menu item
  • Select the category you want to move your item to by selecting the radio button, press
    Next Step > Preview > Save
 

 

๐Ÿ”” If you're moving an item to a different category and it's part of a special deal, remember to remove and re-add the size under 'Modifiers/Sizes'. This ensures the item remains visible in special deals.

 

All done! Your item has been moved to the 'Pasta' category ๐ŸŽ‰


Changing Item Name and Description

  • Click the 'Edit' button inside the chosen menu item
  • Change the Item Name > Next Step > Preview > Save > Refresh the customer website

Size Updates & Changing Item Types

๐Ÿšจ When adding new sizes to existing menu items, always ensure to add extras and pricing for the new size, as this won't happen automatically.

 

๐Ÿšจ Also, when changing an item from simple to complex, it's crucial to re-add extras with their respective pricing.


Adding a New Size (Simple Menu Item)

  • Click the 'Edit' button on the chosen menu item
  • Go to 'Modifiers/Sizes' and select the new size
  • Configure Pricing > Save > Next Step > Preview
 
  • Remember to adjust the display order for the size display
  • Click on Save > Refresh Customer Website
 
 
 

Adding a new size (Complex Menu Item)

Let's add an extra '18 pieces' size to our 'Chicken Wings' complex item

๐Ÿ”” Make sure that any new sizes & modifiers that you want to update your complex menu item with are previously entered under the 'Modifiers' section on the Admin Panel

  • Click the 'Edit' button on the chosen menu item
  • Go to 'Modifiers/Sizes'

  • Click the "Select Base Modifier' button

  • Select '18 Pcs'

  • Click 'Save'

 
 
  • Configure Prices > Next Step
 
  • Click on 'Select Other Modifiers', then re-check the boxes for the sauce modifier to ensure it applies to the new size as well

  • Click 'Save' > Next Step > Preview > Save

 

All done! An additional size has been added to your complex menu item ๐ŸŽ‰


Adding New Modifiers (Complex Menu Item)

For the 'Masala Curry' menu item, let's add 'Lamb' to the existing Protein Type options and introduce a new modifier for Spice Level with Mild, Medium, Hot, and Extra Hot choices.

๐Ÿ”” Make sure that any new modifiers that you want to update your complex menu item with are previously entered under the 'Modifiers' section on the Admin Panel

Here's how it works:

  • Click the 'Edit' button on the chosen menu item

  • Go to 'Modifiers'

  • Click the 'Select Other Modifiers' button

 
  • Check the 'Lamb' option under 'Protein Type' modifier and 'Spice Level' modifier with all its options

  • Click 'Save'

  • Configure extra pricing if applicable

Let's upsell the price for 'lamb' protein

  • Click 'Next Step'

  • Go to 'Preview' > Save

  • All set!
